American International Building

American International Building

This is a 1932 completed, 66 story, 290 m skyscraper located in lower manhattan.  Upon its completion, it was the 3rd tallest building in the world (behind Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building.)  It was the tallest building in lower manhattan until the completion of the World Trade Center Twin Towers and have regained that status upon the twin towers destruction on September 11, 2001.

The building features an open air platform with an enclosed glass observatory above it on the 66th Floor, offering a view of downtown. This observatory, which was once public, is now accessible only to executives and employees of AIG.

An interesting useless fact is that the building appears at the end of the movie Spiderman. However, it is depicted as being located in midtown manhattan instead of lower manhattan.
